Peace

December 24, 2009

Have you ever felt this unrelenting desire in the deepest recess of your heart? Sometimes the pain becomes too much to bear. And in those painful moments, you ask yourself: Why? Why am I hurting myself inside? Why is there unrest? Why is there a lack of peace, lack of Shalom?

We feel this unrest due to not getting what we want, or worse, getting what we want only to find out that that is not what we really wanted in the first place. We lack this peace because we find joy in a created thing, rather than the Creator. We find joy in these counterfeits because we love them instead of loving God. The fruits of the Spirit start with love, then joy, then peace. We lack peace because we lack love.

Do I want peace? Do I want rest from being swept to and fro from my fickle, wandering heart? Then hold onto Love. For He is the Lord of the Sabbath, who has made Sabbath for man.

All those nights of restless longings can be redeemed. Come back. Be undone, unraveled. Love and desire God alone.
